About Srilankan Kidney Foundation

I am Buddhist monk from the sacred Mahiyangana Raja Maha Temple, one of the most venerated Buddhist Stupas of Sri Lanka enshrined with Buddha’s hair relics, situated in Mahiyangana in the Uva Province of Sri Lanka.
A large proportion of people in this region are farmers engaged in paddy cultivation and quite a number face many hardships and difficulties and hence live a very simple lifestyle.
As a result, the villagers come to the temple not just as a place of worship but to meet the monks to get help and guidance to their problems. As a monk I have therefore a good understanding what villagers go through. To address some of these issues and to try and alleviate poverty, under the leadership and guidance of the of the Head priest, Mahiyangana Raja Maha Temple floated a programme to offer economic stability, uplift standards of living and quality of life of people and started reaching out to families in remote villages of Mahiyangana, Pollonaruwa, Ampara etc.
Whilst engaging in these activities, I happened to come to the UK, but was constantly exploring how I can help the underprivileged people in Mother Lanka. Within less than a year of coming to the UK, I came across SLKF, UK a charitable organization that has been reaching out primarily to those suffering with Kidney diseases. This was therefore a timely opportunity to exploit my experience, skills and contacts in Sri Lanka and with no hesitation I joined forces with SLKF to venture a number of projects to help deserving people and families in Sri Lanka.
To mention a few these were:
- Building a house for a poor family
- Offering monetary help to 5 families with kidney diseases
- House to house distribution of essential food and other essential household items during the Covid-19 pandemic
- Distribution of school books to children from families of disadvantaged backgrounds
- Distribution of morning and evening meals to patients for a period of 18 days in Kandy, Mahiyangana, and Dehiathakandiya hospitals
It gives me great pride to watch the humane services rendered by SLKF to the poor and needy people of Sri Lanka. I hope SLKF will be able to continue this meritorious service to the motherland for a longtime and I hope SLKF will grow from strength to strength. I wish SLKF longevity and success in all future ventures. May the Triple Gem Bless you all and protect you.
සම්බුද්ධ පාදස්පර්ශයෙන් පරම පූජනීයත්වයට පත් ඵෙතිහාසික මහියංගන රාජමහාවිහාරයේ කලක් තේවා කටයුතු සිදු කල ස්වාමින්වහන්සේ නමක් ලෙසින් හා එම පළාත්වල ජනී ජනයා සමග උරෙන් උර ගැටෙමින් ජාතික ආගමික කටයුතු සිදුකල නිසාවෙන් ඔවුන් මුහුණ දෙන උග්‍ර ගැටලු පිලිබදව මනා වූ අවබෝධයක් මා හට තිබේ.
මෙම ප්‍රදේශයන් තුල බොහෝමයක් දෙනා කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය ජීවිකාව කොටගෙන දිවි ගෙවන අතර ඒ අතරින් රටට බත සපයාදුන් ගොවි මහතුන්ගේ සැදෑ සමය ගතවන්නේ සෝචනීය ලෙසින් වීම කදුලු කතාවකි.
ගමෙන් පංසලට සංකල්පය වෙනස්කොට ගනිමින් පංසලෙන් ගමට යන සංකල්පය මුදුන් පමුනුවා ගැන්මට මහියංගන රාජමහාවිහාරාධිපති
නායක ස්වාමින්වහන්සේ පෙරටු කොටගනිමින් ගම් දනව් සිසාරා මහියංගන,පොලොන්නරුව,අම්පාර ආදී ගම් නියම්ගම් පසුකරලමින් දුශ්කර ගම්මාන වලට වැඩම කරමින් ඔව්න්ගේ ජීවිතවලට ගුණධර්ම හා සාරධර්ම එක් කර ගැන්මට සවියක් වෙමින් ආර්ථික මට්ටම ගොඩනැගීමට සවියක් වූ බව නොරහසකි.
කාලයාගේ ඇවෑමෙන් එක්සත් රාජධානියට වැඩම කරන මා හට SLkF සංවිධානය සමග අත්වැල් බැදගැනීමට ලැබෙනුයේ සසරේ කරන ලද මහා කුසලයක ආනුභාවයෙනි.වසරකටත් අඩු කලක් ඇතුලත දී
- අසරණ පව්ලකට නිවසක් තනාදීම
- වකුගඩු රෝගී පව්ල් 5ක් සදහා මාස් පතා ජීවනාධාර ලබාදීම
- කෝවිඩ් වසංගත කාලවකවානුවේ ආධාර ලබාදීම
- ආර්ථික දුශ්කරතා ඇති දුවා දරුවනට පොත් පත් ලබාදීම
- මහනුවර,මහියංගන,දෙහිඅත්තකන්ඩිය රෝහල්වල දින 18ක් පුරා උදෑසන සවස ආහාර ලබාදීම
- ඒ අතරින් කිහිපයකි.
මාතෘ භූමියට ආලය ඇති,මිනිසාගේ දුක කදුල හදුනන දුක් විදින ජනතාවට සෙතක් සලසන්නට SLKF සිදුකරන අමිළ මෙහෙය අනභිබවනීය වේ.ඔබ ආයතනයට තවත් බොහෝකාලයක් ලක් මවට සේවය කිරීමට ශක්තිය ලැබේවායි ප්‍රාර්ථනා කරමි.

The SLK Foundation, an association of Sri Lankans in United Kingdom of which I am a patron of, is doing a great service to Sri Lankan kidney patients through the Samastha Lanka Kidney Patients’ Association. The SLK Foundation of England conducts and organises a concert annually called Dayada to raise money and awareness. My congratulations to the SLK Foundation for continuing the mission of kidney patients through such activities. You too can support the SLK Foundation in England for the care of Sri Lankan kidney patients.
එකසත් රාජධාණියේ ශ්‍රී ලාංකික එකමුතුව කගේ සහභාගිත්වයෙන් සිදු කෙරෙන SLKF සංගමයට අනුබද්ධිත සමස්ථ ලංකා වකුගඩු රෝගීන්ගේ සංගමයේ අනුශාසක වරියක් ලෙසින් කටයුතු කිරීමට ලැබීම ජීවිතයේ මා ලද භාග්‍යයක් ලෙස සලකමි. මා එසේ පැවසීමට හේතු කාරණා වනුයේ එම සංගමය සමග වසර ගනනාවක් කටයුතු සිදුකොට ලත් අත්දැකීම් සමූහය නිසාවෙනි.
වසරක් පාසා ” දායාද “. යන මැයෙන් සංගීත ප්‍රසංග පවත්වා , මාසිකව ආධාර කිරීමෙන් හා සමාජ සත්කාර සිදුකරමින් සමස්ථ ලංකා වකුගඩු රෝගීන්ගේ සංගමයට මුදල් පරිත්‍යාග කරන අතර මීට දෙවසරකට ඉහතදී එම ප්‍රසංගයට මා හටද සහභාගි වීමට අවකාශය ලැබුනු අතර එය ජීවිතයේ අමතක නොවන මතක සටහනකි. එසේ උපයාගන්නා මුදල් බොහෝ දුක් කම් කටොලු මැදින් එක් දිනක් හෝ ජීවත් වීමට ප්‍රයත්න දරන අසරණ රෝගීන්ගේ රුධිර කාන්දුපේරණය සදහා යොමු කරනු ලබන බව ප්‍රකාශ කලයුතු ම කරුණකි.
එකසත් රාජධාණියේ SLKF සමාජ සත්කාරක පදනමට ඔබත් නන් අයුරින් ආධාර උපකාර කොට තවත් අසරණ රෝගියෙකුගේ ජීවිතයක් මොහොතක් නමුදු බේරාගැන්මට ශක්තිය ධෛර්‍ය ලැබේවායි එක සිතින් පතන අතරම SLKF සංගමයට චිරාත් කාලයක් අසරණ රෝගීනට සරණක් වන්නට හැකිවේවායි ප්‍රාර්ථනා කරමි……

As one of patrons of the Samastha Lanka Kidney Patients’ Association, I would like to take this opportunity to explain importance of supporting patients. These missions to provide welfare of CKD/CKDu patients are sponsored by the SLK Foundation, an association of Sri Lankans in the UK. The forefront of the mission is assisting in the treatment of haemorrhage, an expensive treatment for kidney patients. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the support given to the treatment of Sri Lankan kidney patients through the SLK Foundation in UK and I wish them the strength and courage to continue this work.
සමස්ථ ලංකා වකුගඩු රෝගීන්ගේ සංගමය ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුල ක්‍රියාත්මක වන ප්‍රමුඛ පෙලේ පරෝපාකාර සංවිධානයකි. එම සංවිධානය එක්සත් රාජධාණියේ විශාල ලාංකික පිරිසකගේ එකමුතුවෙන් ක්‍රියාත්මක වන SLKF සංගමය හා අත්වැල් බැදගෙන කටයුතු කරනුයේ වසර ගනනක සිටය. එම සංගමයට අනුශාසකත්වය සපයමින් මෙම මාහැගි පුණ්‍යකර්මයට දායකත්වය සැපයීමට ලැබීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අපමණ සතුටට පත්වෙමි.

වර්ෂයක් පාසා සංගීත ප්‍රසංග පවත්වමින් හා මාසිකව ආධාර කරමින් විශාල රෝගීන් පිරිසකට අනුග්‍රහය ලබාදීම මෙම සංගමය මගින් සිදු කරනු ලබන ව්ශාල මෙහෙවරකි.
මෙම සංගමයේ අනාගතාභිවෘද්ධිය වෙනුවෙන් ඔබට හැකි අයුරින් දායකත්වය සපයන්නේ නම් එය තවත් අසරණ රෝගියෙකුගේ ජීවිතයක් ආරක්ෂා කිරීමට සිදු කරන පිටිවහලකි.

Sri Lanka is burdened with an epidemic of chronic kidney disease (CKD).There are approximately 2.2 million Kidney patients in Sri Lanka. CKD presents massive challenges for patients and their families. Living under the poverty line means they are unable to afford relevant care or pay for dialysis treatments /transplants.
To address these medical, social and economical issues, Samastha Lanka kidney patients association was established in 1987 as the oldest kidney association in Sri Lanka, which has done a tremendous work to uplift the quality of renal care.
Our association is supported by the SLK foundation formed in UK, Sri Lankan artists, Cricketers, Doctors and Volunteers. Your support to SLK FOUNDATION -UK will facilitate our services and help save lives.

About 3 years ago, I started having hemodialysis and now, I must have hemodialysis twice a week. One treatment we must do is at our own expense which is very costly. After becoming a member of the Samastha Lanka Kidney patient’s Association, I was able to get additional hemodialysis which provided me great relief. However, there are many kidney patients in Sri Lanka like me who needs help. By Supporting SLK Foundation you are not only providing great relief and strength but also saving a number of vulnerable lives.
නුවන් සමීර වන මා දැනට වසර තුනක කාලයක සිට රුධිර කාන්දුපේරණ සිදු කරනු ලබන රෝගියෙකු වන අතර එය සතියකට දෙවරක් සිදු කරගතයුතු බව වෛද්‍ය නිගමනය වේ. ඒ අතර එක් ප්‍රතිකාරයක් පෞද්ගලික වියදමින් සිදු කරගතයුතු වේ. තත්ත්වය එසේ පවතින විට පූර්ව කුසලයකට මෙන් සමස්ථ ලංකා වකුගඩු රෝගීන්ගේ සංගමයේ සාමාජිකත්වය ලැබීමට මා ද පිං කොට තිබුනි. එම සංගමය මගින් පෞද්ගලිකව සිදු කරගතයුතු රුධිර කාන්දුපේරණය ලබා දීම අප ජීවිතයට මහත් අස්වැසිල්ලකි.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාව දෙස බලනවිට මා වැනි වකුගඩු රෝගයෙන් පීඩිත අසරණ රෝගීන් විශාල පිරිසක් දිවිගෙවන අතර එය කව්රුත් දන්නා රහසකි. එවන් අසරණ රෝගීනට පිලිසරණක් වන්නට එක්සත් රාජධාණියේ SLKF සංගමය විශාල පිටිවහලක් සපයනු ලබයි. එම සංගමය වාර්ෂිකව සංගීත ප්‍රසංග පැවැත්වීමෙන්, මාස්පතා ආධාර කිරීමෙන් හා සමාජ සේවා සිදු කිරීමෙන් උපයාගන්නා මුදල සමස්ථ ලංකා වකුගඩු රෝගීන්ගේ සංගමයට පරිත්‍යාග කරනු ලබ යි.
මෙම සත්ගුණවත් ක්‍රියාවලිය ඔස්සේ විශාල වකුගඩු රෝගීන් පිරිසකට සහනය සැලසෙන අතර ඔබටත් හැකි අයුරින් ආධාර උපකාර සිදුකොට ජීවිතය අයැද සිටින්නවුනට හුස්ම පොදක් ලබාදෙන්නට හැකිනම් එය මහගු පුණ්‍යකර්මයකි. මේ අසරණ රෝගීන් ඔබෙන් අයැද සිටිනුයේ මුදල් නොව ඔවුනට ජීවත් වීමට ඇති කාලයයි….
