A Message from a Kidney Patient

My Name is R.A. Nilanthi Fernando, aged 49 years, underwent my kidney transplant (KT) operation seven and a half years ago. I am now a volunteer at Samastha Lanka Kidney Patients Association (SLKPA) and has been a member since a long time back.

SLKPA is the first and most senior kidney patients association in Sri Lanka and is dedicated to serve all kidney patients of the country and to benefit those in need. Such grateful services include giving dialysis treatments, provision of school supplies to the children of kidney patients, providing travelling allowances for patients to receive their treatments, assistance for kidney patients to receive their medications and other charitable causes, which includes the annual pilgrimage of kidney patients to religious places to pray for their wellbeing.

For the first time, we are extremely delighted to inform that we have launched a newspaper named “Wakugaduwa (The Kidney)” to raise awareness of kidney disease and how to prevent, stay healthy and protect the population from the chronic kidney disease and a new issue is printed once in every three months.

“Dayada 2019” was carried out successfully by the SLK Foundation of the UK, and a sum of Rs: 2,975,362.50 was donated to SLKPA and we are very thankful for this organization for donating us with this amount. Till today the following money were spent: for dialyses Rs: 1,292,570/– for religious programme Rs: 300,000/– for samaja sathkara programme 2019 (for School books Distribution) 100,000/– and other for DAYADA 2020 expenses upto 2019/12/06 Rs: 283,230/– I would once again like to express my sincere gratitude to the SLK foundation on behalf of the SLKPA for their enormous efforts in uplifting the standards of living of the kidney patients of sri lanka, and I hope that the SLK Foundation would achieve success in its aims and experience prosperity.
